Beginner's Guide to Outdoor Vegetable Gardens

Step 1: Decide on the potential location of your garden. You will want a space that gets lots of sunlight, and is relatively flat. Once you've outlined the location (even with rough markings), use any garden tools at hand to till the dirt (you may find some advice around this in the forum).

Step 2: Choose the vegetables you'd like to grow. For beginner's we suggest starting with some easy and bountiful options (tomatoes, cucumber, peppers). Head to a location that sells seeds (local greenhouses, Canadian Tire, Home Depot) and pick out your seeds. You'll also want to pick up a bag of potting soil, as well as enough planters for your seeds (we suggest peat pots, as they biodegrade in the ground as your plant grows)

Step 3: Let the growing begin. Here is a video we found very helpful in getting this step started. Remember to try and get your plants lots of sunlight (especially if the temperature is still preventing you from taking the plants outside)

Step 4: Once the plants are growing well above the top of the planters, it's time to get them into the ground (as long as there won't be any more frost on the ground in the mornings). Dig a hole slightly deeper then the depth of the planters, and put the plants directly in (no need to remover pots if they are biodegradable).

Step 5: Water daily and enjoy watching the plants grow!
